Passivhaus can be applied to residential, commercial, industrial and public buildings. The standard is intended primarily for new buildings but can equally be achieved through refurbishment. With excellent thermal performance and exceptional airtightness regulated through a mechanical ventilation system PassivHaus not only provides significant economic benefits but also offers considerably improved health and wellbeing to its occupants than a conventional building.
